Joshua Mason

High-Performance Coach
& Paly Tennis Team Coach

With a competitive playing career spanning from 2007 and a robust coaching journey since 2017, Coach Josh brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role as a high school tennis coach. As a collegiate athlete at UC Santa Cruz from 2009 to 2012, Josh honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of the game’s technical and mental demands, which he now imparts to his players.

Josh’s coaching career began in 2017 at De Anza Junior College, where he refined his ability to develop players’ technical skills. From 2020 to 2021, he coached for Santa Cruz High School, fostering competitive growth and team unity. He then worked at Eagle Fustar Academy in San Jose from 2022 to 2024. Since 2024, Josh has been coaching at Fruttero Academy in Campbell, where he continues to guide players toward excellence.

Beyond technical proficiency, Josh’s coaching philosophy emphasizes building resilient competitors. During matches he looks to empower athletes to focus on variables they can control, take a broader view of the patterns playing out in the match, and to stay mindful and avoid negative thought patterns.  His goal is to create a positive, inclusive environment where student-athletes grow as players and individuals, equipped to succeed on the court and beyond.

Andy Chang

Paly Tennis Team Head Coach

Andy is the Head Coach of Paly’s Boys and Girls tennis programs, and an RSPA/USPTA certified tennis instructor. He played four years of varsity tennis in high school and led the team as captain his senior year.

Although his high school tennis coach wasn’t very good, he had the exact opposite experience on the fencing team, where he was trained by Jerry Biagini, who was a Men’s foil finalist at the 1960 Olympics and still the most passionate, disciplined and committed coach that Andy has ever met.

Influenced by Biagini’s coaching philosophy, Andy teaches with enormous passion and commitment to his athletes, and is dedicating his time to creating an exceptional youth tennis training program and building a competitive yet supportive tennis community in Palo Alto. He aims to foster a healthy environment for PALY athletes to use tennis as a vehicle to develop not only their athletic abilities, but also valuable skills in communication, leadership, time management, resilience and teamwork through team participation but other ways to serve the community such as through Paly Tennis Camp, where student athletes have the chance to coach the next generation of tennis players.
